CHOGM gay rights bid

Activists are pushing for gay rights to be prominent at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth.

Commonwealth leaders meeting in Perth are being urged to agree to repeal laws that outlaw same sex sexual conduct.

The call is made in a Civil Society Statement prepared for a Commonwealth People's Forum in Perth, in the days before the CHOGM.

Director of the Commonwealth Foundation, Dr Danny Sriskandarajah, says compliance with the call would require action by the majority of Commonwealth members.

But he told Kristina Kukolja it's one of the issues that has emerged strongly in months of international consultations to draw up the Civil Society Statement.
