The head of one of Rwanda's opposition parties is calling on the Commonwealth to take action to encourage democratic reforms in Rwanda.
President of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda Frank Habineza says it was naive to believe that admitting Rwanda to the Commonwealth two years ago would support its path to democracy.
He says since then, suppression of opposition parties and other human rights abuses have been worsening.
Frank Habineza, who is currently living in exile, spoke to Santilla Chingaipe in Perth, where he's been lobbying for action against Rwanda at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
