Shrinking tissues, a "free range" egg producer that crams hens and a consumer complaint line that charges $2.50 a minute have won CHOICE's Shonky Awards for dodgy products.

Consumer group CHOICE received more than 400 nominations for this year's awards, which hand out dishonourable mentions for the shonkiest products in Australia.

Debt assistance company Credit Repair Australia was named and shamed for slugging cash-strapped customers a non-refundable upfront fee of $990, while Qantas' Frequent Flyer Toolbar was outed for monitoring users' online activity.

With 20,000 birds crammed into each hectare, supplier Ecoeggs was also called out for having a stock density over 13 times the national free range code.

SimCity producer EA Games also got a nod for charging complaint line callers $2.48 a minute after their server connection kept crashing.

For the second time, manufacturer Nuk's Starlight Silicone infant dummies were found to have failed CHOICE's safety testing.

Kleenex's Mansize tissues are marketed with the tagline "big tissue, small box", despite shrinking 14 per cent.

"We'd really like to see businesses in Australia lift their game," CHOICE chief executive Alan Kirkland told AAP.

"No Shonky's would be a fantastic situation, but we're a long way off that."

He said food marketing was a repeat offender, represented this year by Dairy Farmers Oats Express Banana and Honey - a liquid breakfast that doesn't contain whole oats, honey or banana.

Energy Australia rounded out the top eight for keeping customers in the dark about electricity price hikes.

An online poll will now decide which will receive the People's Choice Shonkiest Shonky Award.

Energy Australia made the shonky list for failing to mention customers could expect higher charges but said price rises shouldn't come as a shock.

"We have met all regulatory obligations regarding how we announce price rises," it said.

Dairy Farmers said it was sticking by its product.

"Oats Express Liquid Breakfast is a low GI product, containing no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives and is made with quality Dairy Farmer Milk," it said.

For its part, Credit Repair Australia said it provided value for money.

"Credit Repair Australia conducts a full financial assessment with the client, including a budget to ensure the client is not in current financial hardship," it said.

NUK Baby products insisted it followed all legal requirements.
