A church in a wealthy suburb of Pretoria in South Africa has invited homeless football fans to watch the national team play, in a bid to spread World Cup goodwill.

Some 2,000 homeless people streamed into the Moreleta Dutch Reformed church to hear a spiritual message and watch South Africa's national team, Bafana Bafana, play Uruguay in their Group A clash.

"The World Cup is really a wonderful time in our history as South Africa to reach out to people from all nations that are coming here," Head Minister of the church, Dirkie Van Der Spuy, says.

Despite Bafana Bafana's 3-0 loss to Uruguay, fans were proud of their team, saying they provide hope and encouragement for all Africans.
