Brisbane's Lady Cilento Children's Hospital will resume admissions and surgeries at its cardiac ward after an outbreak of norovirus gastroenteritis.

Dr Andrew Hallahan, from Children's Health Queensland, says normal operations will resume on Thursday following the safe management of the norovirus cases.

Of the 10 patients tested in the ward, six returned positive results for norovirus and two were found to have another gastroenteritis.

"All of the patients are recovering well, and the necessary safety precautions and infection control procedures which have reduced the impact of the outbreak are continuing," Dr Hallahan said.

"One of the five elective cardiac surgeries that had to be rescheduled was performed today and the remaining four will be safely done as soon as possible."

Emergency cardiac surgeries were being prioritised as normal, he said.

Norovirus, also known as stomach flu, is common in the community and highly contagious.
