Cimic unit wins $115m mining contract

CIMIC Group's contract mining arm, Theiss, has won a $115 million contract extension from Anglo American .

CIMIC Group's contract mining arm, Theiss, has won a $115 million contract extension from Anglo American to continue mining operations at the Dawson South Coal Mine in Central Queensland.

Under the new contract, which starts from January 1, 2016, Thiess will provide mining services including the removal of overburden and coal mining.

Thiess has long experience at the Dawson Mine, having been part of the original joint venture in partnership with Peabody and Mitsui, to establish and operate the mine in 1962.

Shares in CIMIC, formerly called Leighton Holdings, were trading nine cents higher at $23.61 at 1400 AEDT.
