San Francisco police say an employee of Cirque du Soleil has died from his injuries in what was termed an "industrial accident."

Officer Grace Gatpandan says officers responded after receiving a report of an "industrial accident" at the Cirque du Soleil Luzia show.

The employee died at a hospital. No other details about the incident were immediately available.

It comes after Queensland trapeze artist Lisa Skinner fell five metres from a hoop during a performance of Cirque du Soleil's Kooza show in Sydney on November 28.

Skinner was hospitalised after the accident but was expected to make a full recovery.
