Syria says that "terrorist groups" have attacked neighbourhoods in Aleppo with chemical weapons.

The Syrian Armed Forces says that "terrorist groups" have launched mortar shells containing chlorine on the al-Nairab area and its surroundings in the northern province of Aleppo, causing dozens of injuries among civilians and soldiers.

According to a statement released by the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA, the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces said that "terrorists" stationed in the eastern neighbourhoods of Aleppo carried out the attack on Sunday.

The note said toxic gas attacks earlier this month and in October also resulted in 56 cases of suffocation in several areas under the government control.

The Syrian Armed Forces said the attacks are in response to the army's success in the south and west of Aleppo, and heavy losses suffered by terrorists.
