Cleveland and Chicago score NBA wins

Reigning NBA champions Cleveland have beaten Minnesota, while the Chicago Bulls have defeated the Toronto Raptors.

LeBron James helped turn back a charge from Andrew Wiggins as the Cleveland Cavaliers downed the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-108.

James had 25 points, 14 assists and eight rebounds for the reigning NBA champions.

Channing Frye had 21 points and 10 rebounds while starting for All-Star Kevin Love, who will miss at least the next six weeks after having surgery on his left knee.

Kyrie Irving scored 25 points for the Cavs and James sealed the victory with a three-pointer with two minutes to play.

Wiggins scored 41 points against the team who drafted him and Karl-Anthony Towns bagged 26 for the Wolves, who finished a six-game homestand at 2-4.

The Wolves allowed Cleveland to shoot 51 per cent and hit 13 three-pointers.

In Illinois, the Chicago Bulls beat the Toronto Raptors 105-94.

Doug McDermott scored 20 points and All-Star Jimmy Butler had 19 and 12 assists in his return for the Bulls.

And DeMarcus Cousins had 40 points and 12 rebounds, and the Sacramento Kings hung on to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 97-96 for their fourth straight win.
