Trade Minister Andrew Robb has put criticism of a mammoth Pacific trade deal by US presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton down to politics.
The Democratic frontrunner says the Trans-Pacific Partnership falls short of her "high bar" for creating American jobs, raising wages and advancing US national security.
In response, Mr Robb told AAP on Thursday: "There is a fair bit of politics at play here. Hillary is looking for some differentiation at a time when her candidacy is coming under some intense pressure and is by no means assured."
