Northern Territory vet Sam McMahon will be the CLP's candidate for the Senate seat being vacated by cabinet minister Nigel Scullion.
Dr McMahon was pre-selected as the lead CLP Senate ticket candidate out of a field of 12 hopefuls on Saturday night.
"I bring leadership, strong corporate governance, a great background in business, and years of experience in the Territory," she told the ABC after her win.
The CLP and Labor traditionally each win one of the two Senate seats for the Territory.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison was among the first to congratulate Dr McMahon, pointing out the coalition had two female candidates running against Labor men in the Territory.
"Looking forward to you bringing your experience as a vet and small business woman to our team," he tweeted.
"She joins our candidates Kathy Ganley and Jacinta Price who are taking on the Labor blokes in Solomon and Lingiari."
Senator Scullion announced his retirement from politics in January after 18 years in the Senate.
He is one of at least six senior ministers who won't contest the next election, expected in May.
The Liberal Party will later on Sunday decide on who will replace former foreign affairs minister Julie Bishop in her blue-ribbon Perth seat of Curtin.
