The South Australian government wants to force all 24-hour pubs clubs and other entertainment venues to close down for at least three hours a day to curb alcohol-fuelled violence.

Consumer Affairs Minister GAIL GAGO says a mandatory break between 4am and 7am would help deal with alcohol-related crime and create a gap between the night-time and day-time economies.

She says people have a right to feel safe on the streets in Adelaide's CBD.

Changes to SA's Liquor Licensing Act have been introduced in state parliament but won't be debated until May.
