Star of Clueless, actress Stacey Dash, is running for Congress in the US.

The 51-year-old actress, who played Dionne Davenport in both the 1995 film and its television spin-off, has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run in California's 44th district.

The documents show that the campaign committee is called Dash to DC. The actress has set up a website with the same name.

Earlier this month Dash, a Republican, told her fans on social media she was thinking about a move into the political arena.

She wrote: "In response to numerous calls for me to run for office, I am considering a run for Congress.

"Would love to know what my fans and friends think."

Dash also tweeted about her plans and the message had a Dash to DC badge on it.

She later hinted to her 565,000 followers on the social networking site that she had news.

The actress teased on February 22: "Things are taking shape."

The following day she posted the word "soon".

Dash wrote a memoir called "There Goes My Social Life: From Clueless to Conservative" and is known for her controversial views.

In 2016 she called the #OscarsSoWhite boycott "ludicrous" and also said she felt there was no need for Black History Month.
