Counterterrorism analyst Phillip Mudd has broken down into tears during a live broadcast after the Florida high school shooting where 17 people were killed.
Mudd was discussing one of the deadliest mass shootings in US modern history with CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer when he was overcome with emotion.
"I have 10 nieces and nephews. We're talking about bump stocks, we're talking about legislation. A child of God is dead," Mudd said as he started to tear up.
As Mudd broke down he said: "We cannot accept this. I can't do this Wolf I am sorry."
The CNN broadcast cut to the anchor as Mudd gathered his emotions.
Activists, politicians and citizens of the US are again calling for stricter gun control laws after 17 people were killed at a Florida high school on Wednesday.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was warned last year about an ominous online comment by the 19-year-old man accused of killing 17 people at his former high school but was unable to locate him, an agent said on Thursday.
Authorities said the ex-student, identified as Nikolas Cruz, walked into the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, near Miami, on Wednesday and opened fire with an AR-15-style assault rifle.
He was charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder after being questioned for hours by police for the second-deadliest shooting at a public school in US history.
