Renowned pole vault coach Alex Parnov has quit as head of the Western Australian Institute of Sport pole vault program amid an investigation into his behaviour.

WAIS chief executive Steve Lawrence has confirmed that Parnov is the subject of a "WAIS initiated independent investigation into concerns over his behaviour as a WAIS employee".

The nature of the complaints against Parnov is not yet clear.

Parnov famously coached Steve Hooker to Olympic and World Championship gold.

His daughters have been part of the WAIS pole vault program, and he is one of Australia's most successful athletics coach.

Parnov was reportedly put on leave in recent weeks following an initial investigation by WAIS.
