Malcolm Turnbull says his government has scraped off three "difficult" barnacles weighing down the coalition as parliament wraps up for the year.
The prime minister says he has dealt with the issues of energy policy, same-sex marriage and the ongoing citizenship fiasco.
With the historic same-sex marriage legislation passing on the last sitting day of the year, Mr Turnbull told the ABC on Thursday it had been a very difficult issue but was now the "law of the land".
He said the coalition had been transparent with the dramas thrown up by the dual citizenship crisis that has resulted in disqualifications and resignations in both houses and threw the heat onto Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.
"Labor is the one that is running, you know, the protection racket on some of it's MPs," Mr Turnbull told 7.30.
Finally, he said the coalition's energy policy had won broad support, including from some Labor states.
