Coalition extends lead in new Nielsen poll

The Coalition appears to have extended its lead as the federal election campaign passes the halfway mark.

New poll figures out today show the Coalition appears to have extended its lead over Labor with just two weeks to go till election day.

The latest Fairfax-Nielsen poll shows Labor's primary vote has dropped two points in the past fortnight to 35.

But the coalition's primary vote has jumped a point to 47 per cent.

The coalition has a 53 to 47 lead on a two-party preferred basis.

The poll suggests the coalition is headed for a solid win next month.
