Prime Minister Scott Morrison's coalition government has narrowed the gap with Labor in a new poll.
A Fairfax-Ipsos poll, published on Sunday night, shows Labor in front 52 per cent to 48 on a two-party preferred basis. A month ago, Labor led 55-45.
The survey of 1200 voters late last week also showed a division over Muslim immigration.
About 49 per cent of respondents thought Australia's intake should stay the same or increase while 46 per cent said it should be reduced.
