Coalition launch to focus on stability

The launch of the coalition's election campaign, one week out from the polls, will highlight the stability of a Turnbull government.

Malcolm Turnbull has summed up the theme of the coalition's campaign launch as a choice between two futures - stability or chaos.

The prime minister on Sunday will be joined by former Liberal leaders John Howard and Tony Abbott at the launch in the inner-western Sydney seat of Reid.

The launch follows Labor's set-piece event last Sunday in the western Sydney Liberal-held seat of Lindsay.

Mr Turnbull said the coalition's launch would sum up "the critical choice that Australians face".

"On the one hand, a stable government which I lead, which has a clear economic plan for stronger economic growth and more jobs," he told reporters in Cairns on Wednesday.

"What we have on the other hand is the potential chaos of a Labor-Greens alliance."

Mr Shorten, who was campaigning in Reid on Wednesday, told reporters he wanted Mr Turnbull to explain why he believed a $50 billion corporate tax cut was a good idea and why he opposed a banks royal commission.

"Malcolm Turnbull has got bad policies before the launch - I suspect he will still have the same bad policies after the launch," Mr Shorten said.

The Sydney venue will be a departure from the past four coalition election campaign launches which have been held in Brisbane.
