Tony Abbott says the final coalition election costings, expected to contain substantial spending cuts, will not impact ordinary Australians.
The opposition leader also indicated voters will be able to see all the details of yet-to-be-announced savings by Thursday, two days before election day.
"They will be nothing like Labor's scare campaign," Mr Abbott told ABC Television on Sunday, adding they would be "eminently defensible".
He rejected suggestions the cuts would represent a "massive fiscal squeeze".
Asked whether spending cuts would impact on ordinary Australians, Mr Abbott said: "Inevitably, there will be some changes that people won't like.
"I don't believe the additional savings ... will impact on ordinary Australians."
He reiterated a pledge there would be no cuts to education, health and no changes to pensions and the GST.
Mr Abbott said voters would know all the details by Thursday.
The coalition unveiled $31 billion in savings last week, a figure leapt on by Labor which claimed it was $10 billion short.
