Collingwood women's AFL get cricket star

Australian international cricketer Jess Cameron has been chosen by Collingwood with the 75th pick in the inaugural AFL Women's draft.

They snapped up six internationals for their new netball club and now Collingwood have added distinguished Australian cricketer Jess Cameron to their team for the inaugural AFL Women's competition,

Cameron, was picked at No,75 by the Magpies in Wedneday's draft in which 145 players were chosen by the eight clubs.P

Back playing cricket again this summer after taking a break from the sport in late 2015, 27-year-old Cameron is a proven winner.P

A hard-hitting batter, she was player of the match in Australia's' 2013 one-day World Cup win and was also part of three World T20-winning teams.

Cameron 27, made an instant impact in Australian rules, kicking nine goals on her debut for Melbourne suburban side Diamond Creek earlier this year.P

She may have to juggle both sports with the end of the domestic cricket season overlapping the start of the Women's AFL.P

Among people from other sports drafted on Wednesday were seventh pick and former surf lifesaver Ebony Marinoff , who was chosen by Adelaide and WNBL basketballer Lauren Pearce, who went to Melbourne with the 25th selection.

They join several others from different sports who had already been signed to clubs, including another international cricketer Delissa Kimmince, javelin thrower Kim Mickle, Opals basketballers Erin Phillips and Jess Bibby and Matildas footballer Ellie Brush..P

Many of the most highly rated players had already been signed up before the draft.

GWS Giants used the No.1 pick in Wednesday's draft on 20-year old midfielder Nicola Barr.

Brisbane Lions selected half-back Emily Bates with the second pick while forward Bianca Jakobsson was taken third by Carlton.

Identical twins Jessica and Sarah Hosking were both drafted by Carlton.
