A Colombian man has been named the world's shortest by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Edward Hernandez, who is commonly referred to as Nino (meaning child), inherits the title from China's He Pingping, who passed away in March.

Nino currently lives in Bogota with his parents and four brothers who all work in their family run business making pajamas. His hobbies include playing soccer and dancing to Reggaeton, a popular Latin American dance.

Nino's mother, Noemi Hernandez, said that Nino grew more inside her womb than after his birth.

"The growing process has been very slow. I have the feeling that he grew more when he was in my belly than when he came out, when he was born. When he was born he was 43 centimeters tall, and now at 24, he is 70 centimeters tall. That means he grew more in my belly than since he was born," she said.

For his part, Nino said he was pleased to learn that he had been awarded the title of world's shortest man by the Guinness World Records.

"I felt happy. I felt good when they came here to tell me I was the world's smallest man," he said.

Guinness World Records 2011 will be published on September 15th, 2010, the latest edition of the world's best-selling copyright book.

Guinness World Records is the globally-recognized authority on record-breaking achievements.
