Comment: Sailing by starlight on the Sydney to Hobart

Such a buzz on board for race start. Was amazing how calm everyone was amidst the chaos.

After a great start (and plenty of sea spray to the face to prove it) we made our way off shore. After almost three hours on the sprint a few sandwiches were scoffed down on the rail.

Also made it past Bondi beach without being sea sick so I won a bet!

At about 7pm, just past Albion Park, the rain started to patter down and an hour later I headed below deck for my first snooze as the "shifts" started.

After three hours of failed rest it was time to get back to work (this time with only the stars for lighting).

It made for the perfect setting (toasted sandwich in hand - was too dark to say what was in it for certain) I was able to see dolphins bobbing past our boat in the phosphorescent water. Was a remarkable moment.

2AM now and back in a different bunk for hopefully some sleep this time. Pitch black and rocking gently so hopefully I will manage some shut eye this time.
