Commission 'furious' over boundary leak

The commission tasked with redrawing Queensland's electoral boundaries says it's furious details were leaked a day early.

The commission tasked with redrawing Queensland's electoral boundaries will investigate whether any charges can be brought against a person who leaked details of the redistribution a day early.

The commission has on Friday released details of the redrawn boundaries taking the total number of electorates from 89 to 93, but the details were leaked late on Thursday allegedly by a regional publication.

Queensland electoral commissioner Walter van der Merwe said the leak was extremely disappointing.

"I'm really furious about it and we'll see what we can do about it," Mr van der Merwe told reporters on Friday.

"It's unprecedented that documents that have been embargoed are put into the public realm. It's very, very disappointing."

Boundaries commissioner Hugh Botting said he was "cross" over the leak, and would see what could be done about it

"If an offence has been committed then charges would follow. I don't think any commission has been put in this position before, and we'll have to take advice about what to do from here," Mr Botting said.
