Commuters face wait for QR bungle report

A report into ongoing rostering issues at Queensland Rail is due to be handed to the government on Tuesday, but it won't be released publicly until next week.

A key report into staffing debacle at Queensland Rail is due to be handed to the state government on Tuesday, but won't be released publicly until next week.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk commissioned former Rio Tinto executive Philip Strachan to look into a string of rostering bungles which have led to major timetabling issues at Queensland Rail since the opening of the Redcliffe Peninsula rail line in October 2016.

The Strachan report will be handed to government on Tuesday, however Ms Palaszczuk said she won't release it until next Monday.

"Philip Strachan wants to personally discuss his report with me when I'm back in Brisbane on Friday afternoon," the premier said from Rockhampton.

"On Monday the report will be publicly released as well as the government's response."

Embattled Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe has hinted the report will make recommendations about a possible restructure at QR.

"In the conversations I've had with Mr Strachan he's asked detailed questions around the governance issues, and I imagine he's asked those questions to inform the recommendations he'll be making," Mr Hinchliffe told reporters in Rockhampton on Monday.

Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls said six days was too long to wait for the report to be publicly revealed.

Mr Nicholls said the Liberal National Party wanted to be briefed on what the Strachan Review contained before it made any commitment to its recommendations.

"I think the first restructure that needs to happen is Stirling Hinchliffe," Mr Nicholls told reporters in Brisbane on Monday.

Ms Palaszczuk and her ministers are in Rockhampton for most of this week for community cabinet.
