Concern over measles, meningococcal cases

Health authorities are working to deal with a confirmed measles case on Brisbane's southside and a young girl with meningococcal at a Bribie Island daycare

A confirmed case of measles on Brisbane's southside last month and a meningococcal case at a childcare centre on Bribie Island has prompted warnings from health authorities.

Queensland Health says a large number of people were potentially exposed when a person infected by measles visited Morningside Tennis Centre, Hampton swim school and Morningside Woolworths late last month.

Meanwhile, Metro North Health staff are working with staff and parents of a Bribie Island childcare centre after a young girl was diagnosed with meningococcal on Tuesday.

The girl was treated in Caboolture Hospital and is now recovering at home.

Authorities say there is a very low likelihood of transmission, but they are taking no chances, and have provided antibiotics to a small group of children who had spent time with the girl leading up to her illness.
