Concerns over tax office job cuts

Federal Labor has raised concerns about job cuts at the tax office, in the wake of a global tax avoidance scandal.

In the wake of a global tax avoidance scandal, federal Labor has seized on the 4000 plus job losses at the Australian Taxation Office.

The ATO has confirmed it is investigating 800 Australian taxpayers linked to a controversial Panama law firm which had 11.5 million documents leaked revealing how the rich hide their money.

"You don't cut over 4000 staff from the Australian Taxation Office and pretend you are giving the resources that are needed," Labor senator Sam Dastyari told ABC TV.
