The APEC summit has wound up in Beijing, with the Prime Minister now headed to Myanmar for another international meeting.

But on the sidelines of yesterday's leaders' retreat, he finally held formal talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.

SBS Chief Political Correspondent Karen is in Beijing.

She's told Brianna Roberts opinions are mixed on whether or not Mr Abbott made good on his promise to "shirt-front" the President.
