Coniglio deal will get done: GWS coach

GWS coach Leon Cameron says his AFL club is edging closer to re-signing gun midfielder Stephen Coniglio but admits he's unsure when it will happen.

The clock is ticking but GWS remain unconcerned about near-constant speculation regarding Stephen Coniglio, with coach Leon Cameron suggesting his AFL club is close to securing the vice-captain's signature.

The future of Coniglio, who could become a restricted free agent later this year, has regularly made headlines in 2019 amid reports he could earn $1.4 million per season on the open market.

Adam Treloar, arguably the best player to have left the Giants since the expansion team joined the league in 2012, has suggested his former teammate "could captain any club".

"It is going to be hard to say no to a few offers that might come his way. But he is a very loyal man, so it is a watch-this-space type of thing," Treloar said on Fox Footy.

Despite much conjecture, the expectation is that Coniglio will remain at GWS.

Cameron, who suggested in late May that a deal could potentially be finalised within a month, won't put any deadline pressure on the gun midfielder.

"Are we closer? I think we are," Cameron told reporters on Wednesday.

"We've got a great relationship. Everything's positive and I've got really no concerns to be worried (about).

"Like everything, you want it signed. Done and dusted.

"Until he actually signs on the dotted line, you guys are going to keep asking questions ... but there's no indication that Steve is unhappy at our footy club. I think it'll just naturally take its course and get done."

Cameron pointed to the Giants' successful contract negotiations with Josh Kelly in 2017, when the young gun weighed up a nine-year offer from North Melbourne worth $10 million, while explaining why he is content with proceedings.

"It just takes time," he said.

"The Kelly one in 2017 went out to about July or August (then an announcement was made in September).

"If it takes that long for Stephen Coniglio then that's the way it will be but I reiterate he's in a really good place, playing some great footy and those talks are progressing really well."
