Conlogue wins Cascais World Surfing event

Courtney Conlogue has won the World Surf League event in Cascais, beating Sally Fitzgibbons in the semifinals on her way to the title.

Courtney Conlogue won the World Surf League Cascais Women's Pro on Sunday, beating fellow American Lakey Peterson in the final.

Conlogue's third WSL win this season puts her back in the leader's jersey for the women's Tour, ahead of Hawaii's Carissa Moore.

"I'm very serious as soon as I put the jersey on but it's also really important for me to have fun and enjoy what I'm doing, and it seems to be working," Moore said.

"To be a part of this tour is so special and I cant wait to see how to rest of the year plays out."

Australian Sally Fitzgibbons was beaten by Conlogue in the semifinal, which cements her No.3 place on the WSL leaderboard and keeps her within striking distance of the title.

"It was always going to be a really tough match-up with Courtney," Fitzgibbons said.

"Today was a great opportunity for me to make another final but it just wasn't meant to be.

"It's disappointing and I felt like I had a lot more to give but it wasn't my day. I'm going to have to refocus on France and give it everything there."

The next stop on the women's WSL tour is at Landes in south western France and begins on October 6.
