Conviction stays over Tas schoolgirl death

A man who hit and killed a Tasmanian schoolgirl has lost an appeal to have a negligent driving conviction overturned.

Following a long legal battle, Tasmania's Supreme Court has upheld a negligent driving charge against a man who hit and killed a schoolgirl in 2012.

Bradley John Chaplin on Wednesday lost an appeal, with a majority of the court's full bench finding that the conviction should stand over 13-year-old Ashley Edmonds' death after she alighted a school bus.

"The order of the court is that the appeal be dismissed," Justice Shan Tennent said.
