A cool change has bought relief for firefighters battling to control 11 blazes across NSW.
More than 40 bush and grass fires are still burning but no properties are under threat, and crews have well and truly wrested the upper hand, the Rural Fire Service says.
"We'll see a reduction in temperatures, higher humidity and lighter winds over the next few days as well as possible shower activity," RFS spokesman Ben Shepherd told AAP on Tuesday afternoon.
"However, on the other side of the coin, we need to be mindful that rain limits opportunities to conduct backburning."
There were earlier fears that temperatures reaching into the 30s and stronger winds could hamper the containment efforts of 500 firefighters still on the ground.

But crews contained two major fires at Kundabung and Cessnock while the Port Stephens blaze, which had burnt through more than 8000 hectares, remained out of control.
Damaging winds, large hailstones and isolated heavy falls were expected for parts of the Northern Rivers, Northern Tablelands and the mid-north coast on Tuesday evening, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
The RFS was tracking lightning strikes across the state but said they weren't a major concern.
Wednesday will bring low to moderate fire danger ratings for most of the state.
