Quade Cooper will be available to make his World Rugby Sevens debut for Australia in Las Vegas next month after securing a release for the event from his French club Toulon.
The 58-Test veteran will miss Toulon's Top 14 match with La Rochelle to compete in the fourth leg of the sevens competition from March 4-6.
The American leg will be Cooper's first chance to press for selection ahead of the Rio Olympics, with the Australian Rugby Union confident they can secure his release for another two of the six legs that follow.
The 27-year-old had planned to make his debut in the Sydney leg earlier this month, however he was not selected after coach Andy Friend determined he hadn't had enough preparation time after arriving from France midweek.
Cooper did however train with the team that week and should now have the background knowledge to be selected for the American event.
Australia currently sit fourth in the series standings, and will face England, Scotland and Japan in their pool matches.
The squad for the Las Vegas event is expected to be announced this week.
