An off-duty police officer has been stabbed in the shoulder following an incident in a bayside
Melbourne.
The police officer, in his late 40s, was stabbed in the shoulder blade about 3am (AEST) on Friday at The Boulevard in Port Melbourne.
The attacker fled on foot.
Police are trying to piece together what sparked the assault.
The injured police officer was taken to The Alfred hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a statement.
The assailant was wearing a blue hoodie, jeans and runners.
'Unprovoked' stabbing in Brisbane
In another incident in Brisbane,a 26-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly walked up to a teenager and stabbed him, apparently without warning.
Police allege an 18-year-old man was standing on a platform at Fortitude Valley train station late last when he was approached by the 26-year-old, who pulled a knife and stabbed the
teenager in the stomach without warning.
The victim remains in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The alleged offender is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates today.
