A footballing clash underway in central Sydney.

Since 2007, football has been used to bring together Sydney police with the homeless - and for the first time, the Chinese football association is in on the action.

"Some in the Chinese community find it difficult to trust the police and this is one of the things that does break down the barrier", John Maricic of the NSW Police says.

"At the end of the day, like any form of engagement, it's about the police engaging with the community."

Stephen Lee of the Chinese Football Association agrees.

"They say it's a world game, and also is a bridge to make friends, this achieves what we set out to do, make friends with the local community and enjoy ourselves too."
