Cops taken to hospital after Qld assault

Two police officers have been taken to hospital after being punched in the face while trying to arrest a man on the street in Mount Isa, police say.

Two police officers have been allegedly punched in the face while trying to arrest a man in northwest Queensland.

The male constables, aged 26 and 29, were taken to hospital with face cuts, including one to the eye, following the alleged assault at the Mount Isa suburb of Pioneer early Saturday morning.

Police say the officers were both punched in the face as they attempted to arrest an aggressive and intoxicated man on the street.

An 18-year-old man will face the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with several counts of assaulting and obstructing police and one count of possessing a weapon.
