Copts mourn lost Pope

The head of the Coptic church in Australia has hailed Pope Shenouda III, who died in Egypt over the weekend.

The leader of the Middle East's largest Christian minority has died in Egypt, leaving behind a nervous community at a time of sectarian tensions.

88-year-old Pope Shenouda III had led Egypt's estimated eight million Coptic Christians for four decades.

The head of the church in Australian Bishop Suriel, said Pope Shenouda was a leader in Christian unity.

'It's very sad news for us because he's been our patriach for over fourty years', Sureil told SBS.
