Corey Norman's future at Parramatta is on a precipice after he was fined $20,000 for drinking while on the NRL club's injured list.

The Eels on Wednesday confirmed Norman had been issued a breach notice, the latest in a string of indiscretions for the 27-year-old.

The club would not comment on the circumstances however it's understood Norman was reprimanded after posting pictures of himself consuming alcohol on social media.

It's understood the incident occurred several weeks ago while he was nursing an injury and is unrelated to the foot problem which will see him miss Saturday's clash with Newcastle.

Norman's teammates on Wednesday defended his character with Bevan French describing the lengths he went to to make him feel at home when he arrived at the club.

However he did concede the club's rules about drinking when injured were black and white.

"Corey is someone who teaches me a lot on the field and he's one of the leaders here now, he's improved my game quite a bit," French said.

"I know everyone has those rough patches outside of footy and things go on in their personal lives. For all we know he could have something going on.

"I'm not here to judge anyone. He's helped me before and I'm not going to say I'm disappointed in him. I don't think he would get anything out of me saying I'm disappointed in him, I think he already knows and he's disappointed in himself."

Michael Jennings, who is part of the Eels leadership group, said Norman had taken ownership of his mistake.

"We spoke as a leadership group that we've got standards to uphold and Normie being a part of that leadership group, he understands the consequences of his actions," Jennings said.

"He's dealing with it now and he should be fine."

It has been reported Norman is out-of-favour with Eels management and the club would not stand in his way should he seek a release before his contract expires at the end of next year.

With the Eels in last spot with just two wins, Norman has struggled to combine with halfback Mitchell Moses this year and he was last week moved to fullback.

It's been suggested the club is running out of patience after he was fined $20,000 and suspended for the final eight weeks of the 2016 season for a string of offences.

He was thought to be on his last warning after pleading guilty to drug possession following being caught with MDMA and another prescribed, restricted substance at The Star Casino. His conviction was overturned on appeal.

He was also reprimanded for filming a lewd sexual act and drug use as well as consorting with criminals.
