Corruption charges for Perth detective

A Perth detective has been charged with unlawfully accessing police information and passing it on to his lawyer lover

A West Australian police detective has been charged with unlawfully accessing information and passing it on to a lawyer with whom he was having a relationship.

WA's Corruption and Crime Commission confirmed the Perth-based Detective Sergeant is due in court next month, accused of handing over incident reports and personal details of the lawyer's clients for five years.

The detective faces 14 charges of unlawful use of a restricted-access computer system and one count of unlawful use of a restricted-access computer system to gain a benefit for another person.

The officer is also accused of providing the same lawyer with an affidavit linked to multiple telephone intercept warrants.

It is understood the detective, who was not named by the CCC, was involved in the investigation into Perth lawyer Lloyd Rayney, who was acquitted of murdering his wife Corryn last year.

The alleged offences did not relate to that case.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on 4 September.
