Cosmetics giant Shiseido insists it's not abandoning Australia despite the company preparing to close its beauty counters at David Jones.
The Japanese conglomerate sells skincare, make-up and perfume products in David Jones and Myer department stores across the country and also owns labels such as BareMinerals, Laura Mercier and Dolce & Gabbana.
"Australia is a priority market for Shiseido in Asia Pacific and we are constantly striving to ensure we create added value for our customers and consumers," Shiseido said in a statement to AAP.
"While this may mean that our business model across our markets may evolve from time to time, we have no intention to exit the Australian market nor cease the sale of products across Shiseido's portfolio in Australia."
But David Jones has confirmed that its relationship with Shiseido is coming to an end.
"After many years of partnership, Shiseido will be exiting David Jones stores later this year at which time all affected David Jones Beauty team members will be redeployed across our new brands," a David Jones representative said.
Myer declined to comment on whether sales of the brand would continue at its stores and Shiseido said it could not divulge details regarding its business partners.
