Lawyers are investigating whether the plans to close down more than 150 remote communities in Western Australia could be in breach of the Racial Discrimination Act.

The Kimberley Land Council says a legal challenge could be mounted because the plans to stop the funding of the communities appear to be targeting Indigenous settlements.

The Human Rights Law Centre shares that view.

Lawyer Ruth Barson told Greg Dyett it's worthy of further investigation.
