Councils to meet on disaster recovery

Mayors from every Queensland council will meet in Brisbane for a special disaster recovery meeting.

With floods or cyclone affecting 75 per cent of the state, Premier Anna Bligh will brief local government leaders on the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.

The authority will not just focus on Brisbane and the southeast, but assist regions statewide to rebuild.

The meeting was also be a chance for mayors to brief the government on recovery issues particular to their areas, Ms Bligh said in a statement.

"Few parts of Queensland have been spared but there are huge variations in the effects from absolute destruction of private property, to huge infrastructure damage, to the destruction of crops and farm land," she said.
