The switch happened at 9am this morning with Communications Minister Stephen Conroy hailing it an historic day for Australia.

Mayor Glenn Milne says an intensive local media campaign has been running for at least six months to educate ratepayers about the change to hit screens today.
He says the change will provide more local content to remote communities, including the South Australian border town of Murrayville, which can no longer get Mildura news bulletins.
Milne says health care cardholders have been given free set-top boxes, aerials and installation to access the digital signal.
Residents in the region, who had some of the worst reception and most limited choice of channels, will now have 16 or more channels with a clear picture and crisp sound.
Digital will be rolled out to all parts of Australia by December.
