A couple in their 60s are critically injured after their car ploughed through a KFC drive-through north of Brisbane.

The man and woman, both aged 61, were in the queue at the Morayfield KFC on Saturday night when the man accidentally hit the accelerator.

Their vehicle rammed the car in front before careening into a garden bed and hitting a sign.

The couple were both taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition.

Queensland Police said their conditions had stabilised on Sunday morning.
