Court drops child sex case against Moti

Australia's High Court has thrown out the child sex case against former Solomon Island attorney-general Julian Moti, describing it as an abuse of process.

The Fijian-born Australian was charged in 2008 with seven counts alleged to have occurred in Vanuatu and New Caledonia in the late-1990s.

But the High Court ruled Australian diplomats and federal police assisted in his deportation from the Solomons to Australia in 2007, despite knowing it was unlawful.

Mr Moti has always maintained his innocence and claims he was pursued for political reasons.

SBS has tried to contact Mr Moti for comment.

The Australian Federal Police and Attorney-General's office say they may issue a statement.
