Alicia Coutts, the winner of five swimming gold medals, has been chosen to carry the Australian flag at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.
Although she came to the Games with no expectations, Coutts proved Australia's most successful individual performer of the Delhi Games.
Team chef de mission Steve Moneghetti chose her from a bunch of outstanding candidates for the honour of carrying the flag as the Australians march into Thursday evening's closing extravaganza.
Coutts won gold medals in the 200m individual medley, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and was a key member of Australia's gold medals in the 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x100m medley relay.
Up to 300 Australian athletes are expected to march in the closing ceremony on Thursday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
