Cowan wins top NSW cricket award

Former Test cricket opener Ed Cowan's remarkable resurgence has been recognised with a win in the Steve Waugh Medal

Resurgent former Test cricket opener Ed Cowan has capped of a superb domestic campaign by winning the Steve Waugh Medal the major male cricket award in NSW.

Cowan 34, was the highest run scorer in Sheffield Shield this season, tallying 959 at 73.76, the best aggregate and average of his his 12-season Shield career and also won the NSW Blues Shield player of the tournament.

Southern Stars' wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy won the Belinda Clarke Medal, the premier female award in NSW cricket after starring in front and behind the stumps.

Healy's 479 runs was third overall in the WBBL and complemented her competition-high i7 dismissals (nine catches and eight stumpings), five more than any other wicketkeeper.

Healy was also named the Sydney Sixers WBBL player of the tournament.

Veteran paceman Doug Bollinger carried off the NSW Blues'' one-day cup player of the tournament gong after claiming a competition joint-best 15 wickets.

Veteran Australian batter Alex Blackwell was named the NSW Breakers' Women's National Cricket League player of the tournament, after averaging averaging 106 and leading the Breakers to their 18th title in 21 years..

Paceman Sean Abbott and batsman Daniel Hughes were joint winners of the Sydney Sixers BBL Player of the Tournament., with the former taking a competition all-time record of 20 wickets.

Recently-recalled Test paceman Pat Cummins won the inaugural Mike Hussey Medal as Sydney Thunder BBL player of the tournament.

Indian star Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded Sydney Thunder's WBBL player of the tournament. award.
