Cowboys coach keeping Feldt grounded

North Queensland's Kyle Feldt has earned State of Origin speculation but his coach Paul Green is urging the winger to keep his feet on the ground.

He's the grand final hero who looks set to become a State of Origin player but North Queensland coach Paul Green is trying his best to keep a lid on Kyle Feldt's expectations.

The 24-year-old, who scored a game-levelling try in the dying seconds of last year's grand final against Brisbane, is reportedly on the verge of being called up by Queensland for the series opener in June.

Green says talk of an Origin debut for Feldt isn't undeserved but he's also urging the winger to not let his head get turned by the speculation.

"He can't go reading headlines," Green said.

"If that comes along, that's great for him. It shows he's improving, which he needs to, but if you start reading into that sort of stuff too much you forget about what's important and what got you there.

"It's good that Feldty's being noticed but he needs to be consistent and how you get consistency is keep working hard."

Green's main focus is ensuring his team back up their impressive 36-0 drubbing of St George Illawarra against Penrith this weekend.

The Cowboys have lost to both Parramatta and Brisbane on the road this season and Green wants a win away from home to halt talk that the premier's past problems with travelling don't re-emerge as a talking point.

"If you look at those games, we were disappointed with how we played in the Parramatta game," Green said.

"I thought we played well against the Broncos even though we didn't win.

"It's more about the performances. Yeah, I would like to get a win so you blokes can stop asking me about the away record but it's more about how we play."
