Cowboys wary of Brisbane pack response

North Queensland back-rower Ethan Lowe has backed Gavin Cooper's call that Cronulla used dirty tactics but says they are more wary of a fired up Brisbane pack.

A war of words with Cronulla won't go away but Ethan Lowe reckons North Queensland have more pressing concerns - facing a fired up Brisbane pack.

Lowe backed fellow back-rower Gavin Cooper's call that the Sharks used dirty tactics on Matt Scott in their round one clash last week after Cowboys coach Paul Green upped the ante on Thursday by claiming several North Queensland players were targeted.

Lowe admitted there would be no love lost in their next clash with Cronulla in round 23.

"It is always a good game against them although I don't think they need any motivation," Lowe said of the Sharks.

"Coops said what he said. He's one of our leaders and we will stand by him.

"But that's been and gone. We have moved on and are worrying about the Broncos."

And it seems there is much to worry about.

Lowe admitted the Cowboys pack were wary of Brisbane's response on Friday after their forwards were criticised in the wake of their disappointing 34-12 round one loss to St George Illawarra.

"When any forward pack gets the heat that they have copped in the media this week they will look to bounce back - we are expecting a big game from them," Lowe said.

"Their whole pack is going to stand up this week and we have to be ready for it."

Green agreed his pack including Matt Scott, Jason Taumalolo and Melbourne recruit Jordan McLean faced a tough test from the Broncos.

"A lot has been said about their (Brisbane's) pack," he said.

"One thing about the Broncos, they are a proud club and I am sure they will fire back after all the criticism they have copped this week and that generally starts in the forwards.

"Historically Wayne (Bennett) simplifies his gameplan and fires up the forwards so I am expecting them to come off the back fence."
