Australia's Matthew Cowdrey won gold on Wednesday in the men's 50m freestyle S9 event, breaking his own world record in a race that saw India's first medal in the pool.
The 21-year-old from Adelaide lowered his world best set at the Paralympics in Beijing by 0.01 of a second to 25.33 in a race he never looked like losing, AFP reports.
Australian Paralympic Committee Chief Executive Jason Hellwig said itt was an 'outstanding swim' from Cowdrey.

Cowdrey is a 21-year-old university student missing his lower left arm, and on Thursday, Hellwig attacked the lack of attention on the achievement.
“Australia's media has given him a lack of attention, preferring to focus on his able-bodied team-mates,” he said in a press release.
“The Para sport events at the Commonwealth Games are not demonstration events, they are fully integrated events that contribute to the overall medal tally. The Australian media has failed to give the Paralympic event the coverage it deserves.
On Saturday, he takes to the pool again in the S10 100m freestyle.
England's Simon Miller took silver with India's Prasanta Karmakar taking bronze to huge cheers from the home crowd at the S.P. Mukherjee Aquatics Complex.
